At Lake Garda, one day is not enough !
The three wonders of Lake Garda: the Gardesana, the most beautiful road in the world, Punta San Vigilio, and Sirmione, with its castle.
The western Gardesana
You wont want the western Gardesana to end. At every turn unfolds a surprise: like the shorelines descending steeply into the blue water; the cypress, olive and lemon trees reminiscent of the Mediterranean; the tunnels that wind around the curves of the rock offering alternating darkness with apertures onto the lake, where you go from dim light to bright sunlight.
Even James Bond once traveled this road of curves and splendor.
Carved out of the rock by hand, by the brave men who hung on to the cliff walls, it is a testimony of human ingenuity.
Along the route are lakeside villages like the elegant Salò with its lakeside promenade and fashionable stores, Gardone with the Vittoriale degli Italiani, D'annunzio's villa, the delightful garden of Villa Bettoni Cazzago, the quaint Gargnano and the picturesque Limone.
Stops not to be missed along the western Gardesana:
-the lakeside promenade of Salò
-the gardens of the Villa Bettoni Cazzago
-the La Malora, a lemon house in Gargnano

Punta San Vigilio
"Forget your work and the hustle and bustle of the city" is the sign that greets those arriving from the lake at the Punta San Vigilio. A place where you can lose yourself in peace and serenity, far from everything and everyone: this is how Count Agostino Brenzoni had thought of his refuge, who right here built his beautiful Renaissance villa, with loggias from where you can see beautiful vignettes of the lake beyond the villa’s Italian garden with cypresses, lemons and statues in every corner.
Nearby you can still find some defunct lemon houses, a small church dedicated to San Vigilio, and in the romantic and quaint harbor a small inn, the prefect spot to enjoy an aperitif at sunset.
The beauty of this place has historically attracted kings, queens, czars, artists and politicians, such as Emperor Alexander of Russia, Winston Churchill, painter Edith Junghans, Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh and Prince Charles of England.
Here you will find one of the most beautiful bathing bays on Lake Garda, the Bay of the Sirens.
What not to miss:
-the Villa Guarienti-Brenzone
-the Bay of the Sirens
-the quaint harbor
Sirmione and its castle
Upon arrival you will be greeted by an imposing castle with a working drawbridge that looks like something out of a fairytale. Advancing on, beyond the bridge and the entrance gate, you will be at center of the village where there is a romantic little church on one side and the entrance to the castle on the other: this is Sirmione, the pearl of Lake Garda.
You can walk up the stairs to the top of the keep and look out at the lake and the village from the top, or walk along the walls like medieval sentinels, or peer over the docks, and try to imagine it full of boats and small sailing ships, which historically found refuge here within its walls.
As you walk toward the tip of the peninsula, passing through town, admire the large pink bougainvillea showing off in one of the town squares, or perhaps discover the Aquaria spa, famous for its thermal waters.
Finally reaching the extreme tip of the peninsula, lose yourself in the ruins of the ancient Roman villa, with its columns and mullioned windows that frame some of the most beautiful views of the lake.
Just below is the spectacle of Jamaica beach, with smooth white stones; it is one of the wildest beaches in Italy.
Three treasures in Sirmione:
-the Rocca Scaligera
-the Roman villa, the Grotto of Catullo
-the Jamaica Beach.
