3 Experiences you can’t miss if you are here on the lake
A wine, unnamed, an impossible lemon, a story of emotions and legends.
1- A delicate varietal, a unique history: The Selva Capuzza winery and a nameless wine
Podere Selva Capuzza invites you to plunge into the history and pleasant nature of Desenzano, to discover a rare and endangered varietal, which the Formentini family has been nurturing and cultivating for more than 100 years, the Tuchì.
From here comes a typical and unique wine of Lake Garda, San Martino della Battaglia Campo del Soglio, which brings in its aroma the strength and dedication to these lands.
A land of history, which goes from the origins of our lake as the stones along the estate testify to the oldest church in Desenzano, the church of San Donino, passing by the battlefields of San Martino and Solferino, where two emperors and a king, Witness of this the Tower of San Martino, stands in the distance among the vineyards.
The journey is part of the wines you will taste, because in this ancient farm the Formentini family with passion, dedication and determination is the custodian of the history of these lands, a unique wine of Garda, one of the smallest DOC in Italy and at risk of extinction, But here he found his guardians, the Formentini family.

2- The “limonaie” of Lake Garda: a story of pushing the limits. Growing lemons in the northernmost place of the world.
The ideal latitude for lemon cultivation is typically 40° parallel to the north and here on the shores of the Benaco we are at 46°, a miracle created by the ingenuity and perseverance of humanity and a desire to go beyond what is possible even if no one believes it is.
Driving along the western Gardesana road between Salò and Riva, you can still admire their imposing architectural presence that defies the steep slopes of the coast, rising up to the sky. Most of the limonaie are now private residences, but some historic ones still stand in Gargnano and Limone.
The golden pomi, here on Lake Garda were brought from Sicily by a friar of the convent of San Francesco at the end of 1200 but it is between 1600 and 1800 that the production of lemons becomes an important economic item for Garda, giving life to an architecture unique in the world that left astonished artists and writers like D.H.Lawrence and J. Goethe.
High walls of stone were built to protect them from the winds and in winter these open air greenhouses were covered with roofs and glass to protect them from the cold, an architecture without nails because the opening or closing of these majestic greenhouses had to be fast and flexible, a cold however always mild compared to the north shore of Lake Garda, when in Riva it snowed, here anyway it rained.
